Today in one of my classes we had a speaker from an esteemed Hotel in NYC. It was quite a learning experience for me. To all people who work in the Restaurant business tips are coming your way :)
"The Answer is Never No" is something that all of us in the service industry need to live by, if you want to serve others you just have to get use to it. When someone orders a dinner and wants sauce on the side just do it, because one small gesture can give an amazing result. Having worked in the restaurant industry it is something that teaches humility.
You never know what a small gesture means to the person you are serving, you could keep this customer for the next decade! As well as get a good tip! being part of this industry means you will do anything and everything to put a smile on someone's face.
However, being a good guest is something people need to learn too. So the next time you go out to eat put yourself in your servers shoes, try to be polite, have a conversation with them, ask them how their shift is going. Eating out is meant to be a relaxing and pleasant experience, so lets go out there and put our best foot forward.
